Not only is 5yo Amelia a sprightly and engaging person in her own right, she has enough pretend alter-egos to populate an entire village. Here are some of them:
- Jessie - a mermaid
- Christina - a 22yo
- Soyono - a mama tiger
- Melati - Soyono's cub (she likes it when I pretend to be Soyono and she is Melati and then we chuff at each other; just last night I had to also pretend I had one giant breast with lots of nipples sticking out)
- Gracie - a 5yo Chinese girl
- Heather - a 15yo girl
- Word Girl, or Becky - Becky is Word Girl's secret identity. Amelia does not like to be called "Word Girl or Becky"; I'm supposed to pick one name or the other (but sometimes I call her "Word Girl or Becky" just to tease)
- Samantha - a just-born baby; a favorite at bedtime because just-born babies can snuggle with their mamas all night long
- Joyce - a 1yo baby (I don't remember her pretending to be Joyce, but she insists that she does)
- Abraya - a puppy (a hypoallergenic puppy, since Daddy is allergic)
- Meowlinga - a hypoallergenic kitty cat
She begins by whispering in my ear, "Mama, can I please pretend to be [whoever]" and then skips off, happily in character. Or swims, if she is being Jessie. My favorite moments are when she is being Soyono, and something happens to irritate her; she will express her displeasure by snarling and putting up her claws.
