Supposedly I live in a top-50 radio market, but our local radio hosts remain irritatingly Bush-league. No matter what the topic, they insert gratuitous Democrat-bashing. Recently, for example, a movie reviewer was talking about two films that were opening nationwide that day (can't remember which two). He finished with a Halloween joke and was signing off when the host interrupted:
Host: Say, have you seen that new Jimmy Carter movie? [Astute readers will note: this movie has not been generally released and cannot be seen in our listening area]
Movie reviewer: [cautiously] Yes, I've seen that documentary and it appears to be well-done.
Host: Did it cover the fact that Carter has seemingly lost his mind in his later years?
Why do I need to hear slurs about Carter during the movie reviews? This kind of thing happens All. The. Time. Traffic reports, home repair call-in programs, nothing is safe. Sure, I can (and usually do) turn off the radio completely, but these airwaves belong to the public, dagnabbit! They are not supposed to be some right-wing clown's personal slander megaphone.
I miss the Fairness Doctrine. :(
