Another good way to contribute to refugees from Katrina: beenthere: a clearinghouse for clothing and toys. (via Learning to Expect the Unexpected). I read somewhere (can't remember where now) that to the rest of the world, it looked like Americans didn't care about our neighbors on the Gulf. I hope that our future actions will demonstrate how untrue that belief is.
I learned today that one of the police officers who lives in our neighborhood has been called to go to Louisiana in a few days . . . and the sheriff who manages our hoa's off-duty deputy patrols emailed me today; he is already there. Bless them, and all the other relief workers who are doing what the rest of us only wish we could do.
