Kindergarten has required a little bit of an adjustment. The other day, Emma came home with a note from her teacher:
"While I was giving instructions for cleanup, Emma was dancing without permission. :("
I was a little jealous, being way too old to even remember the desire to dance, regardless of permission. But rules are rules. I sat down with Emma.
"Emma, I'm getting the impression that kindergarten is a lot different from preschool. Is that right?" I asked.
She nodded.
"Do you want to tell me about it?" I asked.
She sighed, considered her words. Then she told me, "Kindergarten is like WORK ALL DAY."
I know what you mean, kid. I know just what you mean.

GOOD FOR HER!!!
I think that perhaps Dancing Without Permission would be a great name of a blog for her. You could get it now and save it.

Sometimes teachers are poops.
Not that I can really blame them, 'cause they've chosen a profession in which they have to deal with how many children (and parents) at a time?!

Jess, I don't blame her teacher either. Emma hates cleaning up and that is aggravating when it is just her ignoring the cleanup instructions . . . it must be much more difficult when there are 21 potential dancing Emmas in the room. Our conversation continued by my trying to explain why we sometimes have to do things we would rather not do. I am still envious of her ability to dance without permission, though. :)
Cindy, great idea about the blog name!

And just think - some kids and adults won't or can't dance even with permission!
I like "Dancing Emmas" for a blog name, too.
I just dropped the eldest off for the first day of third grade. Hopefully this year the teacher can write a coherent English sentence - last year, several announcements came home that I almost felt the need to go over with a red pen and send back (one from the principal!). ;-) I restrained myself admirably.
