The Summer Solstice Haven't Done Enough Blues

Started off this summer
With a list many pages long
Of tasks that I would finish
Before summertime was gone.

[chorus] But now we are at solstice--my time has slipped away--the days are growing shorter--and all that I can say is that I've got the LOW DOWN, MOPING AROUND, SUMMER SOLSTICE, HAVEN'T DONE ENOUGH BLUES.

I'd exercise each morning,
My girls and I would play,
I'd cook my family healthy meals--
We'd eat our Five A Day.

I'd make all my doctor appointments,
take care of car maintenance,
write letters to my loved ones
who live at a distance.

For fall preschool, my youngest daughter
I would teach to use the potty.
And both my girls would go to bed
As early as they ought to.

I'd catch up on my reading
Academic and fun titles too,
I'd resurrect my research
. . . all of this I would do.

CAN'T FIND TIME FOR A HAIRCUT,

WHY DID I AGREE TO SUMMER TEACHING,
