If I knew I'd be in the same office for more than a year or so, I'd set up one of these white board walls. They are so cool. And then I'd use it for argument mapping. Frankly, I think all academic offices should have white board walls. Maybe I'll make that argument during our next contract negotiation!

Oooh, whiteboard walls would be SO COOL. Although I think I'd have to have one whiteboard wall and one corkboard wall, so with the latter I could jot notes on pieces of paper and rearranged them at will.
There are lots of expensive things I could do to create the ideal office. Sigh.

I have a chalkboard covering 1/4 of one of my walls. It's very useful. I use it when grad students are talking through outlines for papers, for example (just writing down for them what they are saying out loud), in addition to my own stuff. I don't keep the info up for long, though. I usually chart things out on the board, then transfer it to paper and erase it. This makes me wonder -- why write it on the board at all? I think I use it more when I am meeting with someone else around a paper or project (colleague, research assistant, grad student) than just for my own stuff.

We're thinking of getting magnetic paint for one wall of our kitchen when we do the remodel. Not as nifty as whiteboard but it'll look just like a regular wall (important for resale) only it will secretly be magnetic.
